Import ArtSong™ 6 MIDI into energyXT

1

Right-click in the main eXT window and add a sequncer component.

2

Double-click the sequncer module to open it up.

3

Drag a MIDI file on the sequencer window (as of version 1.26 MIDI individual MIDI tracks are created and named)

A cool feature in eXT is that it creates ‘parts’ for each chunk of MIDI data, these sections can be named and moved.

4

To get output to your softsynth from the Sequence module do a File > Add MIDI port. Do this 4 more times, so that we have a send for each of our tracks.

5

Now to get a VST into the mix. In the main eXT window, right-clk, and choose a VST module from 'Recent' or a VST folder

6

Now to connect the new port on the sequncer (which will be MIDI Port 1) to the VSTi. Then connect the VSTi to the Master Out.

7

To route individual tracks to different ‘outs’ and hence different synths, right-click the track name Strings/Chords >  Output > MIDI Out > Port 1.

You can also do this for your other tracks.

8

Now press the play icon in the sequencer transporter to hear the tracks you’ve connected.

9

Now, what happens if you want to save your sequncer track? This is also the “freeze” process in eXT. If you try to do a File >Export to wav at this point you’ll get silence because your MIDI data is being routed to the Master Out, not a VSTi. First you have create a “Send” instrument in the sequencer module.

10

I choose Sytrus and now you can see it is a ‘Send’ instrument and is activated as the little box to the left of it’s name is highlighted.

11

11. Next, you have to right-click on a sequencer track and choose to Output to the VSTi. (rather than the MIDI Out port I showed above).

12

Select the length of audio your want to render/freeze… shown here in yellow.

13

Now, go up top and select File > Render to wav… choose your directoy.

14

A shorter way would be to press the ‘record’ in the Master Out > then ‘play’ in the sequencer and you will see the audio wave data in the track window whereby you can then save that to a file.

Arpegiations

1

To make rippin’ rhythms you can use the super arpegiation feature of eXT.

You can route the MIDI data in a ‘part’ to an ‘arpegiation’ compoenet for some complex grooves. 1st you need to assign a MIDI FX to the part. I nthe sequencer’s mixer (left-hand side) click on the ‘Add’ button in select ‘Arpeggiator’.

2

You can also add a VST.

3

Add an ‘Arpegiator’ component from the same menu we used above to add a sequencer. Then hook them up as so.

4

Here we have some notes in the sequencer (or standalone MIDI part for that matter) which will be routed to the arp.

5

You can now set an arpegiation pattern for the interaction for your ‘part’.

You can save these arp patterns for future use, which is nice.
